Carnival Cruise Line is set to elevate the cruise vacation experience with the introduction of Lokono Cove at its exclusive private destination, Celebration Key, on Grand Bahama Island. This newly unveiled retail paradise is designed to immerse guests in the rich cultural tapestry of The Bahamas, offering a blend of locally inspired keepsakes, fine jewelry, and authentic Bahamian artisan goods. Lokono Cove stands out as one of the five distinctive 'portals' or zones at Celebration Key, each offering unique experiences reflective of Carnival’s commitment to delivering diverse and enriching vacation options. The creation of Lokono Cove follows a concerted effort to involve the local community in Celebration Key’s development, with the cove’s name, meaning 'the people,' drawing from the island's original Lucayan inhabitants, symbolizing a bridge between the island’s storied past and its vibrant present.

The process of naming Lokono Cove involved a community-based competition supported by the Ministry for Grand Bahama and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, resulting in a name that pays homage to the island’s original Lucayan inhabitants. The winner of the competition, Grand Bahama resident Deidre Rahming, not only earned a prize for her contribution but also the opportunity to play a significant role in the portal’s opening ceremonies. This initiative underscores Carnival’s dedication to fostering a meaningful connection between its destinations and the local communities that shape them, ensuring that the stories and heritage of The Bahamas are woven into the fabric of Lokono Cove.

At the heart of Lokono Cove, guests will find themselves surrounded by a vibrant marketplace bustling with stores, kiosks, and an artisan market showcasing the finest in local craftsmanship. From intricately designed souvenirs that capture the essence of Bahamian culture to fine jewelry that tells a story of tradition and innovation, every item on offer invites guests to take a piece of The Bahamas home with them. Beyond shopping, Lokono Cove is adorned with murals painted by Bahamian artists, creating a vivacious backdrop that celebrates the island’s artistic legacy. Furthermore, visitors can indulge in local delicacies, adding a flavor-filled dimension to their exploration of Bahamian culture.

Celebration Key itself represents Carnival Corporation’s largest investment in The Bahamas to date, with over $600 million allocated towards creating this unparalleled destination. Apart from Lokono Cove, the island features four other portals each designed to cater to varying guest interests, from adventure and family fun to serene adult-only sanctuaries. Paradise Plaza serves as the heart of the destination, welcoming guests with live music and a towering sandcastle, while the Family-Friendly Portal offers a lagoon, splash pad, and beach activities designed to delight visitors of all ages. Adults seeking tranquility can find solace in Calypso Lagoon, complete with a swim-up bar and DJ tunes, or choose the exclusivity of the Private Club Portal, offering sophisticated dining and an infinity pool overlooking the sea.

With more than 500 itineraries already scheduled to call at Celebration Key, travelers from across the globe will soon have the opportunity to experience this Bahamian jewel. Slated to open in July 2025, the destination is a testament to Carnival’s ongoing efforts to expand vacation possibilities for its guests, blending innovative experiences with the celebration of local culture and heritage. A significant expansion plan is also in place, with a $100 million investment set to extend the existing pier to accommodate two additional ships by 2026, ensuring that even more travelers can discover the wonders of Celebration Key and the enchanting Lokono Cove.
