Holland America Line (HAL), a Seattle-based cruise line known for its pioneering voyages and luxurious travel experiences, has recently unveiled an exciting lineup of cruises designed specifically for astronomy enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. In 2026, a total solar eclipse, a celestial phenomenon not visible from the United States, will occur. To offer guests a front-row seat to this rare event, HAL has meticulously planned three distinct itineraries that sail directly into the path of totality, guaranteeing an unparalleled viewing experience.

The first of these journeys, the 35-day Voyage of the Vikings: Solar Eclipse, scheduled to depart from Boston, MA, on July 18, 2026, aboard the Zuiderdam ship, promises an epic adventure across New England, Canada, and several European destinations, including Greenland, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Iceland. The solar eclipse viewing will take place off Iceland’s western coast. The second itinerary, aboard the Nieuw Statendam, is the 28-day Scandinavian Solar Eclipse cruise departing on July 25 from Dover, England, or Rotterdam, Netherlands. This voyage offers scenic visits to Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and Scotland, with the solar eclipse viewing from Iceland’s northwest coast.

For those looking for a shorter expedition, HAL presents the 13-day Mediterranean Solar Eclipse cruise onboard the Oosterdam ship, departing from Lisbon, Portugal, on August 9, 2026. This itinerary explores the stunning landscapes of Spain, France, Italy, and Montenegro with an exclusive solar eclipse viewing occasion between Barcelona and Alicante, Spain. Each of these voyages not only focuses on the eclipse but also offers rich, immersive experiences in each port of call, with overnight stays in Barcelona and Reykjavik for an in-depth exploration of local cultures and landmarks.

To enhance the celestial experience, Holland America Line has arranged for scientific specialists to join the cruises, delivering lectures and hosting themed activities related to the solar eclipse. Eclipse glasses will be provided to all guests for safe viewing of the phenomenon. Additionally, as part of the line's Celestial Cruises, passengers can also experience Northern Lights sailings and a special summer solstice celebration above the Arctic Circle, combining natural wonders with travel luxury.

With the opening of bookings set for July 31, early birds and Mariner Society members can avail themselves of special onboard credits and perks by booking their celestial journey by October 29, 2024. This announcement follows the success of HAL's 2024 eclipse cruises, reaffirming the cruise line's commitment to offering exceptional, nature-centered voyages that cater to the curiosities and bucket-list dreams of its guests.
