Hurtigruten Expeditions, a premier operator in the cruise industry, has announced a landmark shift in its pricing structure, moving to an all-inclusive model that promises to redefine the expedition cruising experience. This strategic change is aimed at simplifying the product for both trade partners and guests, ensuring that the adventure and exploration that lie at the heart of expedition cruising are accessible and straightforward. With an already strong reputation for its immersive and educational expeditions to remote destinations, Hurtigruten Expeditions is now set to enhance its offering by including a wide array of services and amenities in the base ticket price.
Key to this all-inclusive model is the inclusion of daily expeditions and activities, such as hikes, community visits, and talks, which are integral to the Hurtigruten Expedition experience. Additionally, guests will enjoy full-board dining with house wine, beer, and spirits available throughout the day and evening, alongside all-day access to coffee, tea, and soft drinks. The move removes the worry of hidden charges, a concern previously voiced by potential guests, allowing for a more transparent and satisfying experience. Onboard gratuities, Wi-Fi, access to saunas, hot tubs, and fitness rooms, as well as professional photos from the onboard photographer, will also be covered, further enhancing the value proposition of a Hurtigruten Expedition.
In an effort to deepen the engagement and understanding of the environments visited, the all-inclusive package will include access to Hurtigruten's interactive science program and the Science Centre onboard. These initiatives offer guests hands-on opportunities to learn about the natural world and contribute to real scientific research. The inclusion of expedition gear and a reusable water bottle underscores the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a core value of Hurtigruten Expeditions.
Alex Delamere-White, Chief Commercial Officer of Hurtigruten Expeditions, emphasized the importance of this move in simplifying the product and enhancing the guest experience. It also represents a strategic effort to grow the North American market. By including such comprehensive offerings in the base ticket price, Hurtigruten aims to demystify the expedition cruising world and make it more accessible to a broader audience. Moreover, the company is actively engaging with the trade through extensive outreach and education efforts, including visiting over a thousand North American travel agents in just the first quarter.
The transition to an all-inclusive offering will initially apply to Hurtigruten's flagship expeditions in Antarctica and the Galápagos starting October 2024, with plans to extend this model to other destinations in the following years. This shift not only simplifies the booking and travel process for guests but also positions Hurtigruten as a trailblazer in the expedition cruising sector by providing unparalleled value and an enhanced guest experience. Hurtigruten Expeditions' move to an all-inclusive model stands as a bold testament to its commitment to exploring the world's remote beauties with care, comfort, and inclusivity.
