Margaritaville at Sea is marking a significant milestone in its journey with the comprehensive refurbishment of the Margaritaville at Sea Islander, formerly known as Costa Atlantica. Currently docked at the historic Harland & Wolff Shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, this ambitious project aims to transform the cruise ship into an unparalleled tropical oasis on the seas. Slated for a month-long stay, the ship is undergoing an elaborate makeover to align with Margaritaville at Sea’s signature blend of laid-back luxury and island escapism.
Over 1,500 dedicated crew members and contractors have congregated in Belfast to contribute to the extensive refurbishment efforts. A highlight of the project includes the introduction of a vibrant new livery, alongside substantial upgrades to the public spaces and staterooms. Central to the ship’s transformation is the creation of innovative features such as the LandShark Bar at Sea, a three-story poolside bar, and a Margaritaville-inspired mini-golf and cornhole course. The Islander will also boast an impressive array of dining options, with a total of 12 venues including the upscale JWB Prime Steakhouse and the casual Rita’s Taco House.
Upon completion, the ship will offer 1,100 reimagined staterooms, designed to encapsulate the essence of the sea, sand, and sky. Guests will be enveloped in the comfort of Margaritaville’s signature bedding, pillows, and linens, ensuring a restful stay. Furthermore, the Islander is setting sail under its new banner with an exciting agenda. Beginning June 2024, it will operate short cruises from Tampa, Florida to sought-after destinations in Mexico and Key West, including Costa Maya, Cozumel, and the western Caribbean’s hidden gem, Key West. These four- and five-night itineraries offer the perfect getaway for those longing for a taste of paradise.
The acquisition and subsequent renewal of the Islander is a testament to Margaritaville at Sea’s ambitious vision for growth and commitment to delivering exceptional vacation experiences. With this transformation, the Islander not only embarks on a new chapter in its maritime history but also sets new standards for comfort, entertainment, and immersive destination exploration in cruising. As the flagship vessel of Margaritaville at Sea’s fleet, the Islander is poised to offer an array of captivating onboard experiences and amenities, designed to bring the spirit of island life to the high seas.
