The newly redeveloped Avatiu harbor, opened in April 2013, now accommodates larger vessels. This port handles about 90% of food imports and 100% of the country's fuel supply. Visitors can experience the unique island tradition of stepping on the Visitor's Rock for a warm welcome into the village. Aitutaki offers serene beaches and incredible lagoons, perfect for snorkeling and exploring. A must-visit is the Arorangi Jetty, opened in 2012, providing a safe landing spot for cruise ship passengers during adverse weather conditions at Avatiu.
