Bounty Bay, Pitcairn

Bounty Bay Passage, Pitcairn

Bounty Bay is an embayment of the Pacific Ocean into Pitcairn Island. It is named after the British naval vessel Bounty, famous for the mutiny immortalized in the novel Mutiny on the Bounty. The remains of the Bounty can still be seen in the bay, where the ship was deliberately burned and sunk by mutineers. Visitors can explore the ship's artifacts, including Fletcher Christian's Bible, at the new museum in Adamstown. The islanders sell locally made handicraft items, guide books, and beautiful Pitcairn stamps. Due to the geography, cruise ship passengers don't disembark, but the islanders visit the ship, stamp passports, and sell souvenirs. The official currency is the New Zealand dollar, and U.S. dollars are accepted. The island is now connected to the internet via satellite with free wireless access throughout Adamstown.
