International Date Line
International Dateline
The International Date Line (IDL) is an imaginary marker running between the North and South Poles, located in the center of the Bering Sea. Crossing the line means time travel - traveling back in time by 24 hours when heading east and setting the clock ahead by 24 hours when going west. Cruising across the IDL is a unique experience offered by Celebrity Solstice® and Celebrity Eclipse® to destinations like the South Pacific, Japan, and the Aleutian Islands. Enjoy lounging on the top deck, watching day turn into night, and spotting marine life such as orcas and humpback whales. Learn about the history of the IDL, established in the 19th century to reduce time confusion in oceanic travel. This imaginary line, roughly parallel to the 180-degree longitudinal line, separates the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. Nestled at the Aleutian Islands, between Russia and Alaska, the IDL is a remarkable spot filled with historical significance and natural beauty.
