The island, surrounded by inhospitable weather, is known for its traditional lifestyle. Residents rely on hunting and fishing for sustenance, with supplies helicoptered in annually. The village features no hotels or cafes, only a small tribal store, post office, and school. Winter temperatures drop to 6 to 10°F, with sea ice used as a runway for supply planes. However, climate change poses risks to the residents as their hunting grounds diminish. The island's geography consists of granite and quartz monzonite, with rocky slopes and sparse vegetation. Little Diomede Island is a unique and resilient community facing challenges due to its remote location and changing climate.
