Milford Sound, officially known as Piopiotahi, is a stunning fiord located in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand. It has been acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination and is considered the world's top travel destination. With its sheer rock faces, including peaks like The Elephant and The Lion, reaching over 1,200 meters in height, Milford Sound offers breathtaking views. Visitors can admire the famous waterfalls such as Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls. The fiord is home to a variety of marine mammals, including seals and bottlenose dolphins, as well as penguins. With its unique combination of freshwater layer containing tannins and saltwater, black corals can be found closer to the surface. Visitors can enjoy boat tours, tramping, canoeing, and other water sports. The Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory allows a glimpse into the marine environment at a depth of 10 meters.
