Stanley Harbor
New Island, Falkland Islands
Stanley Harbor, also known as New Island, is a major port project currently under construction in the East Falkland region of the Falkland Islands. The new port, managed by BAM Nuttall and Royal Haskoning, is set to be a state-of-the-art facility with a 400m x 60m platform, office spaces for Harbor Master and Port Operator, berths for cruise vessels, utility supply points for water and fuel, and a variety of access points for different types of vessels. The port aims to enhance efficiency, cargo capacity, and overall safety standards. Attractions on New Island include the Barnard Building housing whaling memorabilia, a land-based whaling station, and diverse wildlife such as black-browed albatross, rockhopper penguins, skuas, sea lions, and fur seals. Visitors can enjoy self-catering accommodation, birdwatching at Settlement Rookery, and marine mammal sightings. New Island is accessible by FIGAS flights and offers safe anchorages for private yachts, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and adventurers.
