Saunders Island in the Falkland Islands, known as Isla Trinidad in Spanish, is the fourth largest island in the archipelago, covering 131.6 km2 of dramatic scenery and diverse wildlife. Home to five species of penguins, colonies of black-browed albatross, and endemic plants, the island is an Important Bird Area and Plant Area. Visitors can admire the stunning vistas at Mount Richards, explore the historic Port Egmont settlement established in 1765, and witness the abundant marine life including southern elephant seals and southern right whales. Conservation efforts are in place to protect the unique ecosystem from threats such as overgrazing and invasive species.
