Volunteer Point

Named after the ship, the Volunteer, Volunteer Point is a privately owned Nature Reserve located in the northeast of East Falkland. Accessible by road and then an overland vehicle journey or by helicopter, this peninsula boasts a stunning, long white sand beach and is a habitat for a variety of birdlife. It is an Important Bird Area and home to the largest breeding group of king penguins in the islands. Visitors are greeted with a cacophony of sounds from the king, Gentoo, and Magellanic colonies. Accommodation is available in the warden’s house at Volunteer Point, and permission to visit must be obtained from the landowner. Most visitors day-trip from Stanley, but staying longer is highly recommended to fully enjoy the wildlife and serene surroundings. If you are a wildlife enthusiast, Volunteer Point is a must-visit destination for an unforgettable experience.
